Guides for plumbing businesses
What Happens When You Forward a Missed Call to AnswerBack
You keep your plumbing business number, and your customers keep calling it. When you can't pick up, the call is forwarded to AnswerBack's line. Here's exactly what happens next.
Step 1: The call is forwarded
Calls you can't take are forwarded from your number to AnswerBack's forwarding line, +1 (334) 986-3795. Your customers keep using your number. The caller hears that the call may be recorded for security and quality assurance.
Forwarding isn't universal or active by default. Support for no-answer, busy, conditional or all-calls forwarding depends on your carrier or phone system. The pilot starts only after your exact forwarding path is set up and tested. Forwarding guide →
Step 2: AnswerBack answers
The AnswerBack receptionist answers and takes the caller's name, service address and plumbing issue. The caller isn't left with a voicemail box.
Step 3: Typical price ranges (optional)
After the caller's details are taken, callers can hear or get a text with typical price ranges for common jobs like water heaters, clogs, leaks and toilets. You can supply your own price sheet to replace the defaults.
Ranges are estimates only, not a quote or guarantee. The final price always comes from your plumber after seeing the job.
Step 4: A follow-up text, only if the caller agrees
During the call, AnswerBack can offer to text the caller a short follow-up. The text is sent only if the caller says yes. No automatic texts go out after missed or unanswered calls. Callers can be asked to text a photo of the problem, so you can give a tighter range when you call back.
Text recipients can reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Message frequency varies with the conversation.
Step 5: You get the details
The caller's name, service address and issue are passed to you by text, so your business can follow up.
Step 6: After the job, a review request
Once a job is marked complete, AnswerBack can send the customer a short text asking for a Google review. Review requests are set up with you during onboarding.
What AnswerBack is not
AnswerBack does not diagnose emergencies, guarantee appointments, dispatch, or replace a licensed plumber. For a life-threatening emergency, callers should call 911.
Your Google Business Profile stays yours
Keep your established number as the primary public number on your Google Business Profile, website and trucks. AnswerBack's line is a shared line, not a number assigned to your business, so it shouldn't be listed as your business number.

Frequently asked questions
How does an answering service for plumbers work?
You forward the calls you can't take to the answering line. AnswerBack answers, takes the caller's name, service address and issue, and texts those details to you so you can follow up.
Can I keep my plumbing business phone number?
Yes, when your carrier or phone system supports forwarding into AnswerBack and the path passes testing. Keep your own number as the one customers see.
Will my customers get spam texts?
No. AnswerBack sends a follow-up text only if the caller agrees during the call, and no automatic texts go out after missed calls. Callers can reply STOP to opt out.
Does AnswerBack handle emergencies?
AnswerBack doesn't diagnose emergencies or replace a licensed plumber. In a life-threatening emergency, callers should call 911.
Can callers send a photo of the plumbing problem?
Yes. Callers can be asked to text a photo of the problem, so your callback can start with a tighter quote.
Can I hear how AnswerBack answers before signing up?
Yes. Call AnswerBack's line at 334-986-3795 to hear how calls are answered before you change anything.
Does Google Voice forwarding work with AnswerBack?
Not verified. Google documents forwarding from a Google Voice number to an automated system as unsupported, and AnswerBack has not verified that path.
